The Boy Scouts of America Celebrate 100th Anniversary in 2010
I love the BSA ! Absolutely love it ! My family has been involved with this great family-oriented organization since my son, Billy, now 21, enrolled in first grade as a Tiger Cub. We were hooked from the start. Our son went on to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout and my husband and I have remained involved as registered leaders as we still enjoy being part of this great group of people. Our family’s journey through Scouting has given us many wonderful memories and opportunities to make lifelong friends and travel and participate in many activities that we might otherwise not have done on our own.
Scouting instills lifelong values and builds a boy’s character and teaches him about the world and service to others. The Scouting program offers something that school, church, sports and home do not. It is that 5th element that completes a boy. The saying that ‘it takes a village’ to raise a child is very true and Scouting is a big part of that village.
Lord Baden Powell, the founder of Scouting, created something so perfect and right that boys were yearning for. It has proven to be a successful recipe of love of country, outdoor skills, leadership, teamwork, respect, character development and personal achievement. He had the insight to know what boys like and need and 100 years later I think he would be proud to know that his organization is still growing as strong as ever.
The year-long celebration has begun. Here is a video that the BSA has created to announce the 100th Anniversary and share with folks what Scouting is and has been all these years. It says everything that I know to be true and feel in my heart. I know there are many Scouters out there who feel the same lump-in-your-throat pride and are also cheerleaders for this wonderful fellowship we call Scouting. When we put that uniform on - we truly are family. Enjoy the video !
